First time ever taking part in Terrengsykkelrittet, the biggest, signletrail marathon race in Norway. Few days later racing the second big MTB race in Norway, Nordsjørittet, that is located in our backyard. Magic days of road together with my bike and lots of people with same passion for our sport.
The first week after coming back home from WC in Nove Mesto and Albstadt was though. I suffered a lot from a ribbed rib. Then the impact caused a bacterial respiratory infection (lunges and sinus), so I had to take an easy week with less training than planed.
1 week later the Team Merida GunnRita took part in the Terrengsykkelrittet in Oslo and that was a new adventure for Kenneth and me. I was happy to be back on my Merida NINETY SIX, a must in this very technical and bumpy course, lots of singletrails that became even harder with heavy rainfall the day before. I just loved it even though I was totally on my limit in the end. Just finished bellow 4 hours in competition- time.
NORDSJØRITTET – EVENT FOR MOST PEOPLE
5 days later we took part in our local big marathon race that takes us from Egersund to Sandnes where we have our house (it is our home even though we are a lot on the road during the season).
It is just fantastic to race on home soil, meeting passionated mountainbikers like us and feeling the great atmosphare that is very special in these kind of bike festival where most people take part. This year it was about 5000 starters in Egersund and that it is a huge group of strong minded people that took the challenge this summer. You are now invited to come and join us next year!
This coming Saturday we have our national championship XCO in Konnerud/ Drammen. That will be our third weekend racing in Norway for this period at home and I think that never happend before (new world racord!!!) Yes we do enjoy every moment back home and it is fun to experience new tracks and singletrails in Norway. Konnerud will be a new track for me and that is exciting.
I do hope all our MTB friend around the world are enjoying good cycling days and sunny days. I did not experience summer back home yet…but the sun and good temperature might come by for a day or two before heading for Singen and Germany in one week time. World Championship Marathon take place in Singen this year. Will you be there and cheer for us???
Cycling regards from Gunn-Rita
