ONE-TWENTY XT crowned Test Winner
Our ONE-TWENTY XT-Edition was given the highly sought after ‘Test Winner’ accolade by German cycling magazine powerhouse MOUNTAINBIKE. The test crew had a look at our full aluminium trail bike in issue 05/2017 and gave it the big thumbs up.
Here the review translated into English.
MERIDA ONE-TWENTY XT
Test Winner MOUNTAIN BIKE (Germany) 05/2017
+ super planted and stable when descending
+ rather light, very agile
+ impressive traction in the uphills
+ lots of XT equipment, top shock unit
Rear derailleur, shifters, front derailleur: No other test bike is loaded with Shimano’s XT components to the same level as the MERIDA. That’s impressive, however, nobody would notice the difference to an SLX crankset, but what they will notice are the perfect gear ratio and the ergonomic XT shifters. Even more important: The MERIDA has the best rear shock unit in our test. The stiff Fox-Rhythm fork does a great job up front, while the hugely sensitive Fox-Float shock unit with its extra air chamber controls the rear. As there is 130mm travel at both ends, the ONE-TWENTY is pretty much unbeatable on the way down. No other bike feels as planted, stable and comfortable – fantastic! The fact that the geometry is not even focused on those attributes is not really noticeable. If anything, the steep 69° head angle gives the bike a certain agility in twisty turns. The reliable Shimano Deore brakes and the rather grippy as well as wide Maxxis tyres fit this trail-demon perfectly. And as the MERIDA tips the scale at an impressive 13.3kg and its lightweight wheels accelerate sprightly while demonstrating some top traction on the climbs, we clearly have to give the test win to the bike from Taiwan. The slightly higher price of €2199 will not deter from that fact.
All perfect! The lightweight ONE-TWENTY beats the competition in pretty much every discipline. It is super stable on the downhills, flies along the flow trail and accelerates as well as climbs impressively.
VERY GOOD (224 points)
